South London Samba

We are South London Samba, a collective of young people who love to drum. We play energetic music inspired by Latin, Caribbean and African rhythms, blended together with our South London vibe.

We've performed with the Black Eyed Peas (UEFA Champions League Final 2017), Cricket World Cup Opening Ceremony 2019, Eastenders BBC Children In Need, Crystal Palace FC, Lovebox Festival, Love Supreme, O2 Arena, Virgo Festival and Notting Hill Carnival (to name a few). We're currently rehearsing and running classes at Midi Music Company in Deptford, and The Green in Nunhead.

We are South London Samba, a drumming ensemble based in New Cross. We play music inspired by Latin, Brazilian, African and Caribbean rhythms. Although we use drums typically associated with Samba, we don't confine ourselves to just one style.

I started South London Samba in April 2013. After refurbishing some drums I got on Ebay I called up some friends who I knew would be interested. We didn’t have anywhere to rehearse and couldn’t afford to rent so we started practising in Peckham Rye Park. Our first gig was at the Dulwich Village Preschool 50th Anniversary Celebration (picture below) and things just took off from there. Within six months we had performed all over London, most notably ‘Nike - Run to the Beat’ and ‘Eastenders: BBC Children In Need - The Big Albert Square Dance’. We plan to keep moving forward, getting bigger and better. A huge thanks to everyone who has supported us this far!
